As you like it

prologue (performative research outcome)

2025 - 2026

In As you like it - prologue, Mirte Bogaert turns her body -in relation to a fabric- into a living question: Who decides how we look at the (naked) female body? Sensuous, subversive, and layered with ambiguity, this solo slips between beauty and voyeurism, desire and discomfort. Inspired by encounters with Japanese strip theatre and shifting cultural codes, the performance unravels Western ideals of nudity and femininity. Costume and scenography stretch the body beyond skin, inviting a gaze that is never neutral. As you like it is not just seen, it is completed by the act of looking.
